Fancy, schmancy


Last week, we received a rendering of the new 12-story building set to rise on Corlear Avenue, between West 230th and West 231st streets. Known as the Sycamore Court Apartments, the building will house "middle of the road" apartments, according to the developer, as well as retail and office space on the ground floor. Plans also call for 105 parking spaces.
Ground has not yet been broken on the site, but the developer said construction will likely take between 18 to 24 months.

Pint-sized food critic

In case you missed it, The New York Times ran a very funny piece about a 12-year-old aspiring food critic.
The youngster, David Fishman, lives on the Upper West Side, but he's in Riverdale on most days, attending class at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School. Wonder how he feels about his school lunches ...

Riverdale Reads

Pedro Espada Jr., state senator elect for parts of Kingsbridge, Kingsbridge Heights and Fieldston, might dash Democrats' hopes of taking over the Senate for the first time in seven decades.

The Riverdale-Kingsbridge area is expected to get a new school in the city Department of Education's revised, scaled-back, five-year capital plan.

The New York Post reports that Bronx Borough President Adolfo Carrión Jr. has had to cut 16 of his 77 staffers due to mandatory belt tightening.
