Dinowitz still considering ousting Espada

By Kate Pastor

Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz, chair of the Bronx Democratic County Committee, is not making any moves to oust state Senator Pedro Espada Jr. from the Democratic Party just yet, despite urging from state leaders.
After the New York Daily News reported that Mr. Dinowitz would not remove Mr. Espada Jr. before the September 14 primary, Mr. Dinowitz seemed to back away from that position.
“What I said was that while I don’t feel any pressing need to do anything right now, I might or might not,” he said.
He said he had not ruled out the possibility of stripping the Democratic title from Mr. Espada Jr. before September 14, but said “my general tendency is to leave it up to the voters.”
In defending his still tenuous position, Mr. Dinowitz described removing Mr. Espada as a slippery slope that could apply to other Democrats running for office. For example, he mentioned Bronx Councilman Larry Seabrook, who has been indicted on federal corruption, bribery and extortion charges — the likes of which Mr. Espada Jr. has, so far, managed to avoid.
“He’s under indictment for god sake,” Mr. Dinowitz said of Mr. Seabrook.
While leaving room for the possibility of kicking Mr. Espada out before the primary, Mr. Dinowitz maintained that he was leaning the other way.
“Right now my thinking is it probably doesn’t make sense to do this right now,” he said, but added, “The primary is 41 days away and there’s plenty of time.”

Your posting of my position with respect to ousting Espada is accurate. Your characterization of my seeming to back away from my position as reported in the Daily News is not. I backed away from nothing. I told the Daily News and the Riverdale Press the same thing. The News simply chose to present my position differently.

I will repeat what I have said from the beginning: I would suggest that those concerned with Sen. Espada's continued tenure in office may want to consider voting and taking an active role in the September 14th primary.

what does Espada have on Dinowitz?

people like Espada get away with as much as they do because people like Espada know which closets have the most skeletons.

the line between right and wrong is blurred by politicians like Dinowitz.
Espada looted a non-profit for poor folks...did he give Dinowitz a cut of that?

Jeffrey, I think the song below (copy and paste the url sir) should be your new theme song when you walk down the street ... like Shaft. Every superstar needs a theme song!

Whenever I think of your politics I am reminded of the corpse flower...and dirty diapers. You are truly an inspiration...for CHANGE.

Whats even more amazing than your assessment, Assemblyman, is that you violated your oath of office when you thought it would be a good idea to call the home of a PRIVATE citizen to interrogate that citizen about a blog in an effort to threaten her position as a VOLUNTEER member of the local Community Board.

You are a part-time overpaid elected official who most normal people now view as a joke. Who, exactly, do you think you are really?

There appears to be two different forms of thug-type behavior at work here...while Pedro Espada used his son to beat up an elderly journalist in the street as a means to silence the truth about his residency, you used your public office to "make a call" to a private home for your friends at the Amalgamated (where your mother, brother and son are reportedly residents) who were none too pleased about word getting out that there appears to be several issues concerning incompetence and corruption over there.

I suggest you issue a public apology. You were WRONG, your telephone call was inappropriate and you should prepare yourself for the possibility that you may lose your office because of your actions.

Dinowitz says he doesn't like citizens who post anonymous comments about his behavior . But when a community board member publicly posted something he didn't like he called her and,
"he threatened my position as a Community Board member by stating he was disturbed by the content of the blog and that if I was the author, a blog of this nature would not be conducive to my position as a Community Board member."
His bullying behavior proves the point. He is a bully and a coward, using his elected position to threaten anyone who disagrees with him.

McCullough is right. He should publicly apologize and stop his bullying. And we should do to him what he suggests voters do to Espada and vote him out.

For an elected official, Assemblyman Jeffrey Dinowitz is a very touchy man. He seems unduly sensitive to criticism and is so easily upset. Being quick to take offense is not a good trait if he ever decides to seek higher office.

I doubt Mr. Dinowitz is capable of getting elected to any higher office. His appeal does not seem to extend beyond a few senior centers and a string of nursing homes.

I have to believe that Dinowitz has better things to do with his time than fighting with constituents about their blogs. Can he really be that petty?

Yes.

We don't welcome any changes here at all, and our local government is geared toward that end!

The state is crumbling and this guy is trolling blogs? I guess that's what passes for leadership in our esteemed assembly nowadays.

I've read mostly good things or neutral things about Assemblyman Jeff Dinowitz during his term of office, but the situation that Mr. McCullough is talking about is wierd and disturbing. The thought of a state legislator using his office to try to intimidate and control a civic volunteer on a community board is rather repulsive.

So there you have it Mr. Dinowitz. You are a certified loser. 8 out of 10 commentators agree.

Were you not running against a Republican you would most certainly LOSE the election by default. It's a shame most people are too broke and beaten to run against you in a democratic primary. Truth be told, most of the democrats in Bronx County are filthy in one way or another.

Corruption has spread like a virus and it's high time every last one of the corrupt are OUTED for their misdeeds, backroom deals, special favors and strategic affiliations - not just the black and hispanic politicians, all dirty politicians. Hiding BEHIND the majority will not keep you in office, sir. Spectators of the game know exactly how politicians like you play your position.

Do your damn job and stay off the blogs. Start looking into the hiring practices and daily operations of corrupt not-for-profits. If you refuse to do so, you will be considered a party to the crimes being perpetrated on the working class tax-payer. Call us legion, for we are many. The truth will come out like the sun that rises 365 days a year.

It is very foolish for Assemblyman Dinowitz to bully a new Community Board 8 member like that. I am so glad it backfired on him when she went public about it.

As a longtime Community Board 8 member myself, I know there is much resentment about the ham-handed and disgraceful way that Mr. Dinowitz and Councilman Koppell tried to remove Anthony P. Cassino and Bradford Trebach from their Community Board posts back in June 2009. That resentment was compounded this past June, when Mr. Dinowitz and Mr. Koppell deprived us of the services of both fine gentlemen ( Mr. Trebach as Vice-Chairman of the Board, and Mr. Cassino as Chairman of the Traffic and Transportation Committee).

It is disgusting how Mr. Dinowitz and Mr. Koppell try to intimidate and control Community Board members. Our Community Board is now much weaker because of these two selfish politicians.

they all deserve each other!

It's an open secret that Dinowitz made a back room deal with Rueben Diaz Jr., you remove Cassino and Trebach from the community board and I will endorse and campaign for your good friend Espaillat. Espaillat is a dim bulb and Dinowitz knows it. But Dinowitz doesn't care as long as he can control the local community board.

With a name like 'Colleen Hanley' I highly doubt she can be "controlled". The Irish don't sit well with being "controlled" by Kings or - as is indicative in this instance - Queens.

LOL.

"Maid in Manhattan" Jeffrey? Really?

http://www.bronxmall.com/norwoodnews/past/121902/features/page1.html

This is all too painful and hilarious to bear. My taxes are being spent on a paid elected official to troll blogs that discuss issues at a housing project where said paid elected officials stores his family?

How many people in the Bronx are unemployed? What is Jeffrey Dinowitz doing about that?

Anonymous said...

Jeffrey Dinowitz really screwed up this one.

Anonymous said...

Dinowitz should not be supporting Adriano Espada. We need to change Albany, not continue the current mess.

Anonymous said...

So Colleen Hanley is now a member of Community Board 8. Hee hee hee, hah hah hah! What a slow-motion disaster for Assemblyman Dinowitz. Colleen is going to be a giant thorn Dinowitz's side every time he comes before that board for the next TWO YEARS.

Dinowitz is such a whiny, whiny guy.
