Mets and Yankees scorer hails from Riverdale

Today is finally opening day! It's raining — but it's still opening day! Aside from the exhaustive 32-page baseball preview on the Mets and Yankees, today's Daily News has a feature on Riverdale resident Howie Karpin, an official scorer for both New York teams. Mr. Karpin has been the official scorer for both teams for 13 years. In 2006, he said he was approached by Derek Jeter after giving him an error on a play when the Yankee shortstop collided with A-Rod and the ball dropped to the ground.
